As we say that concentration is one of the key successes to college, we could also say that learning how to concentrate is not an easy task to do. As students have a lot of things in mind which hinders them to concentrate, there are still basic tips on how to let your mind behave. Here are some suggestions: Do one thing at a time. Focus on the subject which you have started studying. If you started on Math, then focus on Math. Don’t start worrying about the reading in History, and the homework in English, and the memory work in Science. Just concentrate on Math. When you are finished with it, then that is the time to take on another subject. This way you will learn better and faster in a shorter period of time. Set time limits and compete against them

. If you were assigned to read twelve pages of a chapter, set yourself one hour of reading- exactly five minutes per page. Then see if you can finish reading in less than an hour. Of course, you must understand and remember what you have read. If you concentrate well enough, you can beat the time limit by ten to fifteen minutes. The more intense your concentration, the quicker will be able to accomplish your work. Take short breaks to save of mental exhaustion. It is refreshing for the mind and the body to take short breaks when working on long. After thirty to sixty minutes of intense concentration, depending on your stamina, set your mind to other things for a little while.

Take a walk, have a snack, listen to a good music, do a few stretching exercises, tidy your study table, make a brief phone call, take a nap (fifteen minutes at most) anything but what you are working on. You will find that the break perks you up and revitalizes you to sharper and clearer thinking. Set aside a difficult problem for a while. Just let it incubate in your subconscious. Insights for solutions may come after a good sleep, an hour, or a day. Then work on the problem again. You’ll discover that the incubation period can work wonders.

To concentrate is not easy. Many times, you will fail to keep your mind focused on what you need to do but keep going. The time and hard work you invest in developing your concentration powers are never wasted.
